Who is Dr Adrian Warnock?
Adrian Warnock is a Christian, medical doctor, and published author. He has blogged at Patheos since 2003 and has lived with chronic illness since 2017. He is also a podcaster.
Adrian is the author of a series of books, Transformed by Jesus: Spiritual Renewal, which addresses the greatest need of our cynical and divided world, to rediscover the life-changing power of the ancient gospel. Every generation must learn how to restate the old truths and live them.
The series aims to bring together original works and refreshed spiritual classics that explore what it means to experience the life of God in the soul of man. Each book invites you to slow down, open your heart, and let God breathe new life into your soul. They are written with one unifying conviction about what Jesus does for Christians:
We are justified in an instant, renewed over a lifetime, and glorified for eternity.
In a moment, God declares us righteous and we are born again. For the rest of our lives, He shares His own life with us, transforming us from glory to glory as we are changed from the inside out. When His work is complete, we will be like Him, living forever in His image, His glory, and His grace.
The foundation for this series is found in three books:
-
Raised With Christ: How the Resurrection Changes Everything by Adrian Warnock, foreword by Terry Virgo
- 1st edition: Crossway books, 2010
- 2nd edition: Amazon, 2025
-
Hope Reborn: How to Become a Christian and Live for Jesus by Adrian Warnock and Tope Koleoso
- Christian Focus, 2014
-
- Monarch Books, 2011
Free chapters can be found on Adrian’s Publications Page.
Together, these books introduce the heartbeat of his series: the transforming power of resurrection hope, and the invitation to a new life in Christ, lived out in a community of believers. These ideas are explored in more detail on the author’s Patheos blog where you are invited to join the conversation.
Adrian writes about hope and healing for body, mind, community life, and spirit. Adrian’s background in medicine, the pharmaceutical industry, church leadership, and more recently as a patient, all combine to give him a unique perspective on healthcare, and the faith-based implications of all these fields.
He draws together insights from his medical and psychological specialist expertise, his lived experience as a patient, and his Christian faith. He advocates for the biopsychosocial–spiritual model of wellbeing and is passionate about helping people approach suffering with hope and compassion.
Adrian has spent considerable time reflecting on the philosophy, psychology, and theology of suffering. His insights are valuable for anyone facing adversity, which comes to us all at some point. He has gained a reputation for communicating both theology and health information in an engaging manner.
Adrian has also explored a broad spectrum of theological positions held by Christians, with a focus on following Jesus. Adrian writes about leadership, modern culture, Christian doctrine, and the Church, and many other topics. From time to time he posts book reviews and sermons he has preached or found helpful.
He has been a guest several times on Television and radio and has taken part in Christian debates.
Adrian spent eight years working as a National Health Service (NHS) psychiatrist (1995-2003) where he gained expertise in mental health and community care. He then spent fifteen years as a medical director in the pharmaceutical industry (2003-2017). He helped to design, conduct, and communicate the results of around fifty clinical trials, bringing new medicines to market.
After being diagnosed with blood cancer in 2017, he took early medical retirement. He is the founder of Blood Cancer Uncensored, an online patient support group with its own website, video calls, and a Facebook forum.
Adrian has appeared on the BBC’s Songs of Praise where he was interviewed about his lived experience.
Alongside his medical career, Adrian served for more than a decade on the leadership team of Jubilee Church London. He studied theology through Newfrontiers courses.
He qualified with an MB BS medical degree from London University (equivalent to an MD in the USA) and holds postgraduate qualifications in Psychiatry (MRCPsych) and Pharmaceutical Medicine (MFFM, DipPharmMed).
Adrian has always lived within fifty miles of London, where he studied medicine, specialised in psychiatry, worked as a medical director for several pharmaceutical companies, and did some training in theology in his spare time. You can read more about Adrian’s medical career on LinkedIn.
Several years ago, Adrian’s work and life were suddenly put on hold as he sought to avoid infections, manage risk, was not able to work, and faced the rapid growth of his lymphocyte count. In a sense, this gave him a head start experiencing some of the limitations that the whole world faced during the COVID19 pandemic.
Adrian has also written for Desiring God blog, The Resurgence, Charisma News, Monergism, Confluence Blog, and Churchleaders.com. There are also a few articles from the 1990s that Adrian wrote for a Christian medical journal which he edited at medical school. Adrian also presented a regular request program on hospital radio when he was a medical student.
A good introduction to Adrian’s life story and ministry can be found in a TV interview which aired on TBN.
